Pierres Blanches – Chardonnay 2022 (750ml)

100% Chardonnay from vineyards to the north of the Languedoc city if Nimes. This bottling comes from terraced vineyards of loose, free-draining, clay/limestone soils perfectly suited for Chardonnay. In the fresh 2021 growing season, the site retained just enough of generous springtime rains to allow Chardonnay to ripe to full and fleshy perfection while retaining lovely, freshening, acids. The fruit was pressed and the juice fermented in cool stainless steel on the lees to improve the texture and add cream and toasted nut.

The result is a wine with plenty of yellow apple and pear fruit, a touch of creamy butter, and hint of citrus on the nose and palate. The creamy mouthfeel belongs to a more expensive wine, as does the nicely vibrant finish (although we won’t tell the winery if you don’t). A great cocktail and party Chardonnay for sure, and with enough body and depth to stand up to rich foods and cold nights.
