Description

Château Monbousquet – Angelique de Monbousquet Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2019 (750ml)

The 2019 Angélique de Monbousquet is a dark, unctuous second wine from Gerard Perse’s Monbousquet property. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice and cloves add to the wine’s personality. A wine of serious concentration and power, the 2019 Angélique shows a bit more tannin today than it typically does.

This is really delicious and savory now, showing berry, chocolate, nutmeg and a hint of smoke. Full-bodied and round-textured with layers of dusty tannins. Second wine of Monbousquet. Already attractive, but will improve with age. Better in a year or two.

The second wine of Monbousquet and based largely on Merlot with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Château Monbousquet Angélique De Monbousquet has a ripe, black fruited, smoky, graphite, gravelly earth-driven bouquet as well as medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. Nicely textured, with firmer tannins but plenty of flesh, as well as length on the finish, it’s going to benefit from just a year or so of bottle age and have a good 8-10 years (or more) of longevity.
